Does appearance matter when you’re in a networking meeting or hopefully in the not too distant future, meeting a potential client face to face ?
Now there’s two schools of thought and I’m sure there’s good arguments for both but if you’re not dressed in a way that your potential client needs to see you ,you just making it more difficult for yourself. Building a business is difficult enough without making it harder for yourself .
If you are consistent in your image people will remember you more. It can be something as simple as always wearing a white shirt, black tee shirt or in Nigel Botterill’s case very outlandish designed shirts !
Nowhere is it more important than on LinkedIn to have a photo of yourself as you would appear if go for a business meeting not at a party or camping in a field. No photo is like turning up for a networking meeting with a bag over your head! Most people won’t connect with somebody on LinkedIn if there isn’t a photo of them on their profile page. I hear people say, but I don’t like the way I look. Employ a professional photographer, it is amazing what they can do. Check out their work first , you will be able to re-use the phots time and time again.
And don’t forget video. Why do we feel more sad when a television personality dies than say an author? It’s because we feel we know the TV star better because we have seen them on video many times. The author is hidden behind their words you haven’t seen their personality come through. Most people are not very good the first time they do anything, video is no exception. People will appreciate you trying to use video because they know they should be to. Try BombBomb, or video via LinkedIn messages on your phone, the open rates are far better.
